Confirmation for Adults
Confirmation is the completion of Baptism. It strengthens and increases our power to bear witness to Christ. By the Holy Spirit, we become full-fledged members of the Catholic Church
Confirmation is celebrated with those adults and youth beyond eighth grade who are baptized in the
Roman Catholic Rite.
What can I expect?
Adult confirmation candidates complete an initial interview in the Office of Faith Formation. This visit helps the candidate explore his/her faith, obtain information and begin the paperwork. Interviews are scheduled by appointment. Call 248.547.1810 Ext. 208.
Each adult confirmation candidate attends a one to two hour catechetical experience. This class takes place in the fall before the scheduled date of confirmation or in Lent before the Easter season.
Each adult confirmation candidate is asked to provide the following:
• Proof of Baptism
• The name of a confirmation sponsor: this is usually a person aged 16 or older who has been baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. Many times, the godparents of the candidate are chosen as the confirmation sponsors or another person, other than a parent, can be chosen who meets the above requirements.
• A confirmation name: Often this is the baptismal name of the candidate. Other names can be chosen.
Each adult confirmation candidate will choose a date for his/her confirmation. These dates are provided by the Office of Faith Formation.
What about the ceremony?
The adult confirmation candidate chooses an outfit appropriate for a church ceremony. It can be white but white is not required.
Photos and videos are allowed with some restriction. Contact the office of Faith Formation for more details.
You are asked to notify the Faith Formation Office if anyone attending the ceremony has special needs so that we can provide for their comfort.
